The airline Operations Halted Throughout America Due to IT Outage

Alaska Airlines halted operations because of IT outage

Alaska Airlines halted all departures at airports nationwide on Thursday due to a system failure.

The airline said in a statement that it was "facing an system disruption impacting operations" and issued "a temporary ground stop."

The airline did not disclose the duration the outage would continue or the number of flights were impacted. It said it was "working to resume our operations" after the outage.

The operational halt also impacted the regional carrier, which is a subsidiary of the parent company, according to an notice by the aviation authority.

Alaska Airlines, part of The Alaska Air Group based in the Pacific Northwest, primarily operates on the western seaboard of the US. It services 140 destinations worldwide, including 37 states and dozens of nations, according to its website.

Last year, the airline joined forces with another carrier, which was unaffected by the day's ground stop.

It is the latest technical failure impacting the carrier this year. In July, an outage disrupted operations for about three hours.

Alaska Airlines did not immediately respond on Thursday to media inquiries.

Air transportation in the US has been complicated in recent weeks due to the US government shutdown that began earlier this month. Shortage of air traffic controllers showing up for work has delayed flights at multiple locations.
