The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
